Last Friday night Stuart Charles organised a fabulous working bee to prepare for the Twilight Fair. A huge amount of work was done in and around the kitchen and a general tidy up was carried out. We have over 50 adults assisting and many hard working children also. There was a great sense of achievement in a 3 hour working bee and everyone who attended should be very proud of the community we are building and our beautiful school.
Congratulations to everyone who has assisted with preparations for the Twilight Fair. It has been a great effort amidst a busy time. We hope that you will all come along, rug up, wear boardshorts, sunscreen and a rain coat!!! Who knows what the Melbourne weather will bring. We are resilient and the Fair will go ahead regardless from 4.30pm with fireworks ending the fair at 8.30pm. Scrumptious food will be served at the DKD Kitchen throughout the fair. We will assemble on the Derinya Drive side of the oval to watch the fireworks. Please keep your children with you as it will be dark but also very exciting. Any children who can’t find parents at the end of the evening should be taken to the school office please. There are loads of things to do at the Fair and the stadium will be open all night. Don’t miss the haunted house in the music room!! An activities and stalls list with prices and locations will be emailed out tomorrow. Huge thanks to Anita Smith, Jo Quirke, Sam Stedwell, Suzie Chivers and Kylie Austin together with all of our class parents and Community Connect team for your amazing work. Together we achieve great things.
A highlight of the Fair will be the scarecrow vote competition. Each year level has made a scarecrow and everyone can cast a gold coin vote for the winning scarecrow. The most popular scarecrow will win hot chips for lunch for their year level!!! Just throw your gold coins at the scarecrow of your choice.
First aid will be in the office via the front door. The stage will have great entertainment all afternoon with Derinya’s Got Talent happening throughout the evening. Our Preppies art show will also be in the stadium. Don’t miss out on being able to buy your framed art piece produced by your artistic Preps.
Please note that there will be nuts in some products for purchase and parents will need to be supervising their children. Many thanks to all who are making cakes for the cake stall. These can be dropped off in the stadium kitchen during Friday.
Please be aware that you should park legally on the fair night as per usual as we often have traffic officers giving fines on such nights. That is something we all can live without.
Bike riding. Please chat to your child if they ride bikes to and from school about safety. Some children are putting their lives in danger by speeding down the footpath or riding with feet on the handle bars or zooming across driveways. We want all of our children to arrive here and home safe and healthy.
Parking at Derinya Primary School. Please ensure that you do not park across neighbours driveways. We have had some neighbours blocked in their driveways in the mornings causing them to be late for work.
Pupil Free Day – Friday May 3rd. Staff will be studying a whole school writing program. Their Care have been asked to operate for day care on that day. You will need to book in early to avoid disappointment.
Parent Teacher Interviews will be held in Week 2 of Term 2. Bookings will be online next week.
