DACE is coming! It is that time of the year when we prepare for the Derinya Art and Craft Exhibition to be held on the weekend from Friday 19th – Sunday 21st of July. This is our school’s major fundraiser and a great way to become involved in our fabulous community. On Friday 21st June after assembly we are having a spring clean of the stadium in preparation for DACE. On Monday 24th June we are doing our annual painting of the stadium’s white walls starting at 9am. Stuart Charles would love to hear from anyone able to help. If we have 16 people it will only take 2 hours. The same evening we are rolling out the carpet. We need about 8 strong dads who can assist. We are also setting up the art screens after the final assembly on Friday 28th June at 10am. All are welcome to stay and help. It’s an easy job if we have helpers and many hands make light work. We also need some ironers on the last Friday of term. Please give Stu a call if you can assist with any of these jobs. Remember your children will benefit from our efforts and belonging to this community is vitally important for all families. All welcome!! Then the real work of the DACE team begins! Huge thanks to the DACE Team for your commitment in putting on an amazing show.
Last Friday, 35 Year 6 students who have a keen interest in technology visited the BOSCH Technology Centre in Clayton accompanied by Monica Waterworth. The students were abuzz with excitement at the possibilities of technology and their future opportunities. The technicians at Bosch were so impressed with the students that they have donated a new state of the art 3D printer to our school. A very generous gift which will be well used by our budding technicians and creators.
Free Dress Day: Many thanks to all for your kind contributions. The children loved wearing their casual gear and the Visual Art Captains will now be able to make a lovely purchase of art to enhance our school with the gold coin contributions. All children will visit the DACE Gallery to look at the art and will have a say in what is purchased. Over $900 was raised – a fabulous effort! Thank you !
Trivia Night: Looking forward to tomorrow night’s event. The Quiz Masters are pumped and have planned a very entertaining evening 7pm – 10pm.
Year 1 are walking along Sweetwater Creek this morning. Lovely morning for a nature study!!
Year 6 Winter Lightning Premiership: Good luck to all of our Year 6 winter sports teams competing in the District event tomorrow. We know your good sportsmanship will shine through and you will give it your best shot.
Year 4 Swimming Program: DET is funding each school an amount of money to ensure that all children can swim 50 metres by the time they leave primary school. We have decide to put the money towards an intensive swimming program for Year 4. The Year 4 students will be going to PARC for 8 sessions with the swimming tuition component covered by DET.
Staff Car Park: Please do not park in the staff car park. It is to be used by staff only and at best we still have many staff who cannot fit in. Please do the right thing.
Staff spent their staff meeting in Natasha’s Kitchen last night - Derinya’s new Kitchen/Garden facility. What a fabulous new facility for Derinya. More news to follow.
