Congratulations to all involved in our 44th DACE event very capably led by convenor Anita Smith. A large team of parents have been weaving their magic once again this year in preparation for our major event for 2019. The gallery looks stunning with wonderful works of art from all over Victoria.
There are some changes which will delight and I am sure we will see most people at the opening night for some wine cheese and live music and great purchases or some time over the weekend. There are excellent gifts to purchase for future birthday presents and we hope you will all spread the word. The exhibition opening night is from 7pm – 10.30pm with tickets available on line at Eventbrite. The gallery is open on the weekends on Saturday from 10am – 5pm and Sunday from 10am – 4pm. Looking forward to a fabulous weekend for Derinya – our beautiful school! Money raised this year will go towards our new playground.
Our Kitchen Garden Program in Natasha’s Kitchen has started this week with tremendous success. We welcome Jackie, our kitchen leader who is experienced in this work in harvesting food from the garden and running cooking classes with children. Jackie comes from a horticultural background and is an experience vegetable gardener also. Each grade will work in the kitchen for one full day, harvesting their food, collecting eggs from our new chooks and cooking a meal for lunch. They will then work in the garden and recycle, compost, water, weed, etc. Sustainability, healthy eating, food preparation, hygiene, table manners etc will provide a focus. Each grade will be asked to source four volunteer parents/grandparents who will help for the day. Grade 3JN and 5HT worked in the Natasha’s kitchen this week and made scrumptious silverbeet and leek pizzas and rhubarb muffins. The recipes of these will be available on the school website and staff agreed they were beautiful!! The children thoroughly enjoyed their day and can’t wait to go back again. We will have an official opening of Natasha’s kitchen in the coming weeks. Visit the Kitchen Garden web page.
