Dear Derinya Families,
I would love to start this week’s newsletter with a happy compliment to all our wonderful Grade 4 students who have been to the Polly Woodside this week on their excursion. We have had amazing feedback about their engagement and behaviour from many of the people involved in the day. I know our children display a happy and positive attitude but it is wonderful to realise how this positivity is recognised and enjoyed by all they meet. Well done to all the children and teachers. On this note, I would love to welcome Mrs. Andrea Leonard to Grade 4 in replacement of Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Leonard has worked with the team a great deal and has seamlessly slotted into the class.
We also have our welcome mat out for Eliese Catterick who has taken over the classroom position of Miss Summerfield in our Foundation team. Both new staff members are very welcome and happy new members of our Derinya family.
Next Monday is a big day in our annual calendar as it is our Senior Production “Colour My World.” The staff and children have been working tirelessly to ensure it is a most entertaining and vibrant show. If you have not purchased tickets yet please ring or drop by the Office to fill in a ticket request form as soon as possible as there are still a few tickets available for the matinee performance at 12.30pm. I would also like to remind you all that the children need to be dropped off at the theatre on Monday morning for the rehearsal and will be bussed back at the end of the day to be collected here at school at the normal time of 3.30pm. The note with these details has already gone home.
Big news for tomorrow is the opening of our beautiful kitchen. The opening is after assembly and all are welcome to come up to the block where we wish to recognise the pivotal people involved in getting this kitchen, in particular Natasha Janz one of our wonderful past parents. The kitchen is currently offering a very engaging program and we need to acknowledge the work that has gone in behind the scenes to make this concept a reality.
There are two more reminders for the community, firstly please don’t forget that it is the Father’s Day stall next Wednesday August 28th in readiness for all our wonderful dad’s special day on the following Sunday. Secondly, we hope that the Science Fair in the last week of term has ignited the creative gene in all our families. The fun and excitement of science was really evident in our past Science Expo and we are hoping to see the same level of engagement this year, so please start getting ideas and experiments/models ready, we are not that far away from September 17th’s fair!
