This week at Derinya

Nadine Fenn

Dear Parents, students and friends,

This week at Derinya:

  • 􏰀Year 5 are loving their time at Kangaroobie, they travel over to the other side of the Peninsula on the ferry and this year will be returning this way too which is a beautiful and scenic way to finish their week. Yesterday they went down to Warrnambool to the Sound and Light Show at Flagstaff Gardens and today they are back on the farm/camp to do activities that are a once in a lifetime experience. We look forward to their return and reports to the community soon.

  • 􏰀THE FAIR: We are on a countdown to the fair, only 15 sleeps to go!! Please make sure that you have a look at the rosters for your child’s class and give a helping hand if and when you can and most importantly please don’t forget to return the forms for the ride wristbands by Wednesday the 27th of March. THESE WRISTBANDS ARE NOT AVAILABLE ON THE NIGHT, THERE ARE ONLY INDIVIDUAL TICKETS BEING SOLD ON THE DAY.

  • 􏰀Next Wednesday is our School House Swimming Carnival at the Pines Pool. It is a day where we celebrate the spirit of belonging to a house and having a bit of fun. The forecast for the day is 32’ which will be wonderful HOWEVER I must stress that all children MUST wear a top with covered shoulders. It would be wonderful to see all the students in a rash vest as this is the safest method of sun protection. They all MUST have their school hats for the day too. Please no peak caps. One more note for this day- the Canteen is open at the pool for adults only. We are happy for any parent/grandparent to grab some food and a drink however we do not want children using this on the day, please make sure your child has plenty of food and drink packed and please realise they do eat a bit more on these festive days. We will not be allowing them to purchase food from the canteen.

  • 􏰀Bears on Stairs: We will be participating in this program again this year. The program is run through UNICEF and we enjoyed making a difference to many children coming to Australia under refugee status last year and wish to do the same again this year. We must have only BEARS, we know our children love unicorns and other soft and cuddly creatures however the program is called BEARS ON STAIRS. The collection day for the bears is the last day of term Friday April 5th.

  • 􏰀Finally just a reminder about our Working Bee next Friday after school. If you can lend a helping hand we would love to see you, it will run from 3.45 till approximately 6.30pm, it would be great to accomplish many jobs!
